The game ended all square and for a table-topper lived up to expectations. Genk controlled the game for 89 minutes, although they were mainly on the defensive. Joneleit and Matoukou were magnificent at the centre of the Genk defence and Courtois in the Genk goal must have impressed the 30-odd scouts watching the game. Anderlecht had masses of possession but they hardly created any clear-cut chances. Biglia started off well up field but gradually dropped further and further back. Alongside him, Cheikhou Kouyate was imperial, looking like the player he was last season. Lukaku was, frankly, again disappointing. He needs a goal but it’s not obvious when that will come. In attack, Legear carried the greatest threat and it’s to be hoped he now has an injury-free run.
Genk looked well-organised, with Barda and De Bruyne looking sharp up front. But Vercauteren had come to win on the break and it almost worked. Anderlecht’s goal from Juhasz came in the 90TH minute from a set-piece and that was the only way they would score.
The result leaves Genk on top on goal difference. There are three games left before the playoffs when points will be halved and the top six will be off again. If Standard will be in there depends a lot on their game at home to Club Brugge on Sunday night. This is a big weekend in the Jupiler League.
