Anderlecht – and Frutos – play a must-win game

It’s a funny old game tonight at Parc Astrid. Anderlecht have to win to stand any chance of remaining in Europe. They play Glasgow Celtic who have only won six points out of 90 ‘on the road’.

It should be easy, but Anderlecht are in a bit of a fix at the moment. They have a caretaker trainer (Nicolas Frutos) and they’ve shown very poor form so far this season. They won at Beveren last weekend but no one knows how.

If Frutos doesn’t get a win tonight, it could be the end for him and all eyes will be on Gent coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck. Gent held a three hour crisis meeting last night – to discuss their coach and their awful results – and gave a very loud ‘no comment’ at the end.

Celtic have a great home record and John Reid of ‘The Jersey Doesn’t Shrink’ website (Twitter – @TJDSBlog) feels Celtic are quietly confident despite their appalling away form in Europe and he singles out Australian playmaker Tom Rogic as a man who could have a big influence on the game.

Frutos has not revealed his team plans – or formation – and the only certainties are that Matz Sels will start in goal and Sven Kums will be watching from the stands after his nine minute cameo in Munich.

It’s all to play for if either side fancies a run in the Europa League and if NIcolas Frutos wants to cement his long-held dream of becoming first team coach at his beloved Anderlecht.
