Sunday is the final day of the ‘classic’ season. All eight matches will start at the same time. Five places of the six in the playoffs (PO1) have been settled and any of three clubs can join them: Standard, Zulte Waregem and Kortrijk. As for relegation, one of three clubs will go to the second division.

Playoffs (P01)

Already in the Playoffs are Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Gent, Oostende and Racing Genk. Standard’s fate is in their own hands – if they beat KV Mechelen, they will qualify as the sixth team. Zulte Waregem are hoping that Standard slip up while Kortrijk hope for a miracle: a combination of beating Anderlecht in Brussels and the other two clubs bottling it.

Relegation

Only one club will go down this season – more on this later. The favourite is Bob Peeters’ Westerlo. They have to beat Waasland-Beveren while both Sint Truiden (at home to Lokeren) and Leuven (at home to leaders Club Brugge) lose. It’s a big ask.

Playoffs (P02)

The clubs finishing in the 7th-14th positions will take part in the infamous P02s in front of small crowds and featuring players with little motivation. One point to note is that the club finishing in 15th position (most likely Leuven) will not play again this season. Such is life in the Belgian League.
