A good week in Europe

By | November 4, 2011

Belgian clubs did themselves proud this week in Europe and it could easily have been better still. Chelsea were there for the taking at Genk but the home side only started playing once Koteles had saved Luiz’s penalty. Chelsea did not seem totally focused, a chance missed.

Anderlecht and Standard Liege both had easy wins, the former gaining early qualification. Luis Suarez remains the leading scorer in the Europa League on five. Standard co-leaders of group.

Club Brugge went to Birmingham and took a two-goal lead. The let it slip though, even though they’d dispensed with Adrie Koster for his inability to defend that very thing. Club Brugge have led teams nine times this season – all competitions – only to lose or draw those games. Brugge co-leaders of group.
