Mbark Boussoufa takes his second ‘Golden Boot’

By | January 22, 2011

Lukakumamia briefly stalled on Wednesday when Anderlecht playmaker Mbark Boussoufa took Belgium’s ‘Golden Shoe’ for the second time. Romelu Lukaku had to be satisfied with second place, with the third spot going to Genk’s Jelle Vossen.

Boussoufa became the second ‘foreign’ player to win the award on two occasions. The only other player to do this was Par Zetterberg. As for why Lukaku did not triumph, it’s felt that he lost points in the first half of the calendar year when he failed to score in the extended playoffs. In the second half of the year, the explosion of Vossen at Genk, that took his team to the top of the table, meant that Lukaku did not garner enough points to beat Boussoufa overall.

Other awards went to Vincent Kompany (Best Belgian playing abroad) and Wesley Sonck (Best goal, http://tiny.cc/0bekp) for his bicycle kick on a snow-covered pitch against Racing Genk.
