Just tidying up the pieces here. The final games of the season had no bearing on the outcome of the prizes as that had all been decided on week nine, when Club Brugge had beaten a tired Genk and Standard had triumphed – in vain – over Gent.
Anderlecht clinched the championship in week eight with a draw against Club Brugge and they will go directly into the Champions League pools or into the qualifying competition, dependent on tonight’s match in Munich. Club Brugge finished runners-up and will go into the Champions League qualifying rounds, while Racing Genk got a Europa League place as a reward for finishing third. Finally, Gent seem to have sown up the other Europa League spot with their return match against Cercle Brugge loking like a mere formality.
Westerlo and Sint Truiden have both been relegated, to be replaced by Charleroi and – almost certainly – Waasland Beveren. For Standard Liege fans – and for many others – there is always next season.
