Standard Liege and Gent both crashed out at the cup quarter final stage. Standard lost heavily at home to Lierse while Gent could only draw at home with Lokeren, who now play Lierse in the semi final. The other last four match will feature Kortrijk and Mons. That meant that the four qualifying teams all played away in the second leg.
So the cup is wide open but failing to capture the fans’ imagination. Only 18,000 turned up to watch the four games (in total). The Belgian FA have presented plans for a revamped competition (knock out quarter final and semi final matches, and a group stage to be introduced). Decision day is February 11.
